Joomla migration from 1.0.x to 1.5.x
Do you have a Joomla 1.0.15 website or older? Since July 22 2009 the Joomla 1.0 series is no longer supported officially by Joomla. Your 1.0 website will keep on running, but an outdated version can be very difficult:
- There are no official patches for Joomla 1.0.x released more;
- Joomla 1.0 is not as user friendly as 1.5, especially in the creation (and change!) of Menus and the lack of language for the administrator back-end;
- New extensions only work predominantly in Joomla 1.5.
Important aspects for migration to Joomla 1.5 are:
- what extensions do you use in your 1.0 site? Are those available for 1.5?;
- the version of PHP & MySQL on the server
- does your website has much traffic and how much downtime is acceptable?
Joomla specialist db8 provides a migration path from Joomla 1.0 to 1.5, including database conversion, upgrade and extension template adjustments.
If your Joomla 1.0 website frequently visited, it is important to the downtime as short as possible and to plan it at a quiet moment. It can be used (part of) DTAP process, where there is a separation between different servers and different stages: development / test / acceptance / production environment:
- The new Joomla 1.5 website is developed and tested a different environment.
- For acceptance it will be put on your server in a special folder next to the Joomla 1.0 site.
- After testing and approval the old 1.0 site will be replaced with the Joomla 1.5 website.
